Who needs who?

In a sales team the expected dynamic is that the team members need their manager as the manager is their boss and probably hired them.

The interesting thing is that once hired and trained the manager needs to the team members more than they need their manager. Each sales person can achieve their personal goal just by doing their job they way they expect will make them successful, but the manager needs the majority of their team to be be successful for them to be successful. So, maybe the manager needs to make sure the team environment is the kind of place where the sales people feel they can be successful. Remove the obstacles and support your team rather than insisting on telling them exactly how to do their job.
